Dear Belfast Families,

Thank you to the 179 people who came to our first Family Movie Night last night!  Despite some last minute technical glitches, and some people having to wait a few minutes for popcorn, it was a great success!  We are so grateful to all of you for supporting our school and attending these community-building events.  Thank you to our Belfast School Council and Parent Fundraising Society for co-hosting this with us!

Follow us on Instagram!

We encourage all our families to follow our school’s Instagram account (@BelfastSchoolcbe) and visit our school website to see pictures from the week.  If you do not see your child on Instagram, it may be because they do not have clearance.  Please call the office if you have any questions about clearance.

Pie-in-the-Face Fundraiser for RMHC

Starting on Monday, students can purchase 4 tickets for $1 in the hopes to pie a staff member in the face!  Students can purchase as many tickets as they’d like and put their tickets in the envelope with the staff member’s name of whom they’d like to pie.  On May 22 at 9:30, we will have an assembly; at that time, we will draw names from the envelope and that student can pie the staff member!  Leadership Club students will be selling tickets each morning, starting on Monday.

Portable Moving & Important Door Access

From May 8-12, there will not be any access to the field, compound, the playground doors, or the kindergarten doors.  ALL students will enter in the front doors and all students will be dismissed from the front door.  Recess and lunch will be done at the field across from the school.  The portable will be moved the night of May 12, so all doors should be accessible again on May 13.

New Basketball Courts and Gaga Pit

Once the portable is removed, asphalt will be installed the last week of May.  At that time, two new basketball nets will be installed.  After a few days, we will assemble the Gaga Pit and have new compound lines and basketball keys painted.  We hope all of this is done by the second week of June!

Gaga Pit Builders Needed!

Are you good with tools? Adept at construction? Do you like pizza and cold drinks?  If so, we have the job for you!  We are looking for 6-8 adults who are willing to help construct our Gaga Pit.  The Pit is a pre-fabricated composite kit,but requires people to put it together.  We are told it will take 3-4 hours to complete.

We are looking for a project manager who will oversee the project and then 5-7 others who will help with the build.  We will treat you all to lunch or dinner!

We plan to do this the first week of June, after the asphalt is installed.  This can be done during school hours, or in the evening.  If you are interested in helping, or being the project manager, please reach out at mllundgren@cbe.ab.ca and we can discuss logistics and dates that work for everyone’s schedule.

Hats on for Mental Health – May 7

Each year, we wear hats to school to raise awareness of the importance of mental health in school.  Check out this website to learn more!

Bus Zone – No Parking

We would like to remind parents that the bus zone in front of the school is a no park zone – and a no drop-off zone.  Our two buses are waiting for parents to move each morning in order to drop off children.  Please obey the bus zone signs and pylons.  Thank you!

Reminder:  Space in Kindergarten & Kindergarten Orientation:  Thursday, May 22 6:00-7:00

If you have a child coming into kindergarten in September, please join us for our kindergarten orientation on Thursday, May 22, from 6:00-7:00.  Even if you are familiar with Belfast and have children already attending, if your younger child is starting kinder in the fall, please join us!  At this time, we also have room in our kindergarten class next year for registrations, so please let your friends and family know!

As always, please do not hesitate to reach out if you have anything you would like to share.
