Dear Belfast Families,

Thank you to everyone who came out to our first annual “Lunch with a Loved One” on Wednesday.  We had almost 200 guests in our school!  Although the smoke turned it into an indoor picnic, it was wonderful to see the students show off their loved ones to friends, and show off their school to their special guests.  Thank you to the parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles, Nonas, and adorable baby cousins who came out!  We love to see our students be supported like they were on Wednesday.  Thank you!

Thank you also to Kim, Robin, and Amanda for the concession – it was great to sell some leftover items!

Follow us on Instagram!

We encourage all our families to follow our school’s Instagram account (@BelfastSchoolcbe) and visit our school website to see pictures from the week.  If you do not see your child on Instagram, it may be because they do not have clearance.  Please call the office if you have any questions about clearance.

We Need a Council Chair!

We have had a parent step up to be treasurer, and another who will be secretary, but we still need a person to be our Belfast School Council & Parent Fundraising Society chair.  The current chair, Kim, has set up everything beautifully:  the structures and processes in place mean the next person coming in is truly set up for success!

The commitment is about two hours a month – and the impact of this role is significant.  If you are interested, please reach out to the school or to Kim at Belfast Parent Council:  belfastparentcouncil@gmail.com

All Sport One Day 2025

All Sport One Day is a fantastic, free sport discovery event designed specifically for children and youth aged 6 to 17. It offers a unique opportunity for young participants to try out a new sport or physical activity in a fun and supportive environment.

Whether your child is curious about learning a new skill or simply eager to get active, this event is an excellent way to introduce them to the world of sports without any financial commitment. By participating, kids can explore different sports, discover their interests, and potentially find a new passion, all while making new friends and staying active.

All Sport One Day 2025 will be hel d on Saturday, June 21 and Saturday, Aug. 16 from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM.

Grade 6 Students Riding Calgary Transit for Grade 7

Each year, CBE collaborates with CCSD and Calgary Transit to provide a free orientation program that provides an opportunity for new and first-time transit riders to increase their comfort level and ability to ride Calgary Transit safely and efficiently to and from school.

The orientation includes different stations for families to visit to learn more about route planning, fares, how to ride the bus or C-Train, safety features, rider etiquette and much more.

Sessions run every half-hour and last approximately one hour.

Session Dates and Times

Wednesday, Aug. 13 from 5 – 8 p.m.

Saturday, Aug. 16 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Calgary Transit and CBE Transportation staff will be available to answer questions at these sessions.

Air Quality & Outdoor Events

With wildfire season surrounding us, we need to be prepared to pivot plans to accommodate smoky conditions.  We follow the CBE Outdoor Activities Guidelines which states that if the Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) is between 4-6, there is a moderate health risk and we will restrict outside activities, either through decreasing intensity or duration of time spent outside.  If the AQHI is 7 or above, meaning high health risk, we will reduce or reschedule strenuous activities outdoors and consider indoor recess and lunch supervision.  If you are ever worried about your child’s reaction to smoky conditions, please reach out to the school.

Reminder:  Field Trip Fees Need to be Paid

We currently have $6829.10 of unpaid field trip fees from this year, and that number is worrisome.  We need all families to pay their field trip fees from the year, as our small school simply cannot afford to cover the cost of unpaid fees.  We want to continue to offer amazing trips, supplemented by our generous Parent Fundraising Society, but will be unable to if we continue to have many unpaid fees.  Please make installments towards your trips if you are unable to pay for the entire amount all at once.  Thank you!

As always, please do not hesitate to reach out if you have anything you would like to share.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Meagan Lundgren
