Dear Belfast Families,

This week, our Grade 5/6 students spent
three nights and four days at the YMCA’s Camp Chief Hector.  Although it
has become a Belfast tradition to go to camp every second year, not all schools
do this as it requires a team effort to make it happen.

I want to thank Ms. Posadas, Ms.Burgess, Ms. Duda, and Mr. Ursenbach for spending the entire time at the camp
with the students.  Teachers spend time away from their own families, and
away from their other responsibilities, and I am so grateful we have staff who
are willing to do that!  Ms. Evans and I both got to spend time at the
camp for a couple days and a night, and we loved seeing the students challenge
themselves, gain confidence, and build resiliency.  Students had so much
fun, tried new things, and learned so much.  Going to camp provides
students with lifelong memories and they really do come back from camp more
mature, more responsible, and more appreciative of what they have at home.
The camp counsellors and the teachers and leaders from the other three
schools all commented on how well-behaved the Belfast students were at camp,
and I could not be more proud of this group of students and teachers. Thank you
for representing our school so well!

We could not have gone to camp without
the generous help of our parent community. The camp would be too
cost-prohibitive for our families, if it wasn’t for our Belfast Parent
Fundraising Society subsidizing the fees for our families.  Thank you to everyone
who has donated to the Ed Matters campaign, those who volunteered at the
casino, and to those who serve on School Council and the Fundraising Society-
your hard work resulted in over 50 students experiencing camp!

Finally, thank you to the parents who
gave permission for their children to attend camp.  I know it is often
more difficult on the parents than the kids when children are away from home,
but you really did give your child an incredible experience!  Thank you!

Follow us on
Instagram!

We encourage all our families to follow our school’s Instagram account (@BelfastSchoolcbe) and visit
our school website to see pictures from the week.  If you do not see your
child on Instagram, it may be because they do not have clearance.  Please
call the office if you have any questions about clearance.

Lunch with a Loved One isthis Week!

On Wednesday at 11:45, we invite you to come have lunch with your child, picnic style - outside on the
lawn.  The weather looks good right now, but if anything changes, we will
send an update that morning.  Younger siblings can come, but need to be
supervised.  The Loved One can be a parent, aunt, uncle, grandparent, etc.
- it can be anyone!  If you are unable to come, don’t worry – all staff
members will be outside with the students so there will be a lot of people who
love your child all around! There will be some pop up performances from the
students while everyone eats and plays.

Personal Equipment

With our (totally awesome) new Gaga Pit, students are bringing their own balls from home to play with
after school.  We would like to remind families that if your child chooses
to bring their own sports equipment to school (soccer balls, lacrosse sticks,
footballs, etc.), the school is not responsible for taking care of those items,
or storing them.  Please have your child’s name on any personal equipment
so we can help return lost items to their rightful owners.  Thank you!

Reminder:  Field Trip Fees Need to be Paid

We currently have $6829.10
of unpaid field trip fees from this year, and that number is
worrisome.  We need all families to pay their field trip fees from the
year, as our small school simply cannot afford to cover the cost of unpaid
fees.  We want to continue to offer amazing trips, supplemented by our
generous Parent Fundraising Society, but will be unable to if we continue to
have many unpaid fees.  Please make installments towards your trips if you
are unable to pay for the entire amount all at once.  Thank you!

As always, please do nothesitate to reach out if you have anything you would like to share.

 Have a wonderful weekend,

Meagan Lundgren
