Please be reminded that there is no school on Friday, January 30, as teachers will be participating in professional learning at various locations across the CBE. We hope you are able to take advantage of the warmer-than-usual weather and enjoy time with your loved ones.
We invite families to follow us on Instagram at @BelfastSchoolcbe. If you do not currently see your child featured and would like them included, please complete the annual authorization form through myCBE / SchoolEngage.
Reminder | Blanket Exercise
Thursday, February 26 at 6:00 PM
(Rescheduled from October)
Ms. Lundgren will be leading a Blanket Exercise for interested adults. The Blanket Exercise is designed to build understanding about our shared history as Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada by walking through pre-contact, treaty-making, colonization, and resistance.
Participants actively step onto blankets representing the land and take on the roles of First Nations, Inuit, and later Métis peoples. Through emotional and intellectual engagement, the exercise promotes learning and empathy.
This experience addresses important topics that many adults did not learn about in school, including the Indian Act, Residential Schools, and the Sixties Scoop. Due to the nature of the topics, the evening will conclude with a closing circle and an optional smudge to end in a good way.
An RSVP is required for preparation purposes. Please email mllundgren@cbe.ab.ca if you plan to attend or would like additional information. Further details about what to expect can also be found online.
Reminder | Junior Police Academy
A Free Opportunity for Students Aged 12–16
Students interested in becoming police officers may apply to participate in the Junior Police Academy, an immersive experience covering various aspects of law enforcement. Selected students will take part in hands-on learning, march on parade, and receive a certificate of completion.
