Dear Families,
We’re settling into our new routines, and students are actively engaged in their learning. On Thursday we had our first fire drill, which went smoothly as students evacuated the school safely. We will continue to practice important emergency procedures throughout the school year.
We want to welcome Ms. Roxanne Nobrega to Belfast School as our new Library Assistant! Ms. Nobrega will begin on Tuesday September 15th.
We thank families for supporting their children at home by encouraging healthy habits and routines, such as early bedtimes and turning off screens at least an hour before sleep. These practices help students get restful sleep and come prepared for learning each day.
Terry Fox Run on September 17th
We are excited to share that Belfast School is taking part in the 46th annual Marathon of Hope. Forty-six years ago, Terry Fox showed us the power of effort, courage, determination, and hope. He began with a dream and one step, and today his journey continues through millions of Canadians, stride by stride, coast to coast to coast.
If you would like to support this cause, you can send in “Toonies for Terry” with your child to the school. This year, our goal is to raise $500 for the Terry Fox Foundation. Every step and every dollar honor his legacy and supports the fight against cancer.
Thank you for helping us honour Terry’s legacy and keep his dream alive.
Communities Kick Off
Belfast will be starting up Communities next week! Communities are a special opportunity for students and staff to come together in meaningful ways beyond their regular classrooms. Designed to foster connection, belonging, and well-being, every student is part of a community group that meets approximately once a month throughout the year. Communities are organized by tree, shrub, or bush species – Aspen, Cranberry Bush, Wildrose, Cottonwood, Elm, Apple, Lilac and Willow.
Communities are built around:
- Joy and fun through engaging activities and shared experiences
- Connection and belonging, ensuring every student is part of a group
- Family members learning together when siblings are in the same Community
- Cross-grade groupings that help students build relationships with peers of different ages
- Collaborative planning and participation by students and staff
- A common focus and shared goals that strengthen our school culture
- Wellness learning, with activities connected to our wellness curriculum
Communities provide students with opportunities to develop friendships, leadership skills, empathy, and a strong sense of belonging, helping to create a caring and connected school environment for everyone.
School Council Meeting on September 15th
The first Belfast School Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 15, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in person at the school. This is a wonderful opportunity for parents to become involved in their child's educational experience and connect with our school community.
The School Council plays an important role in supporting student learning by funding initiatives such as important literacy and numeracy resources, technology resources, experiential learning opportunities, and other enhancements that benefit all students.
We encourage all parents and guardians to attend the meeting to learn more about the School Council, its impact on our school, and the many ways you can contribute to supporting student success.
