Dear Families,
We’re excited as we move into October and all the great learning and experiences ahead of us. Next week, we will begin a volleyball residency for all classes, and YW Calgary will be working with students in Grades 4-6 through a mindfulness program. It’s also a beautiful time in Calgary as we enjoy the changing colours of the leaves and cooler temperatures. Students continue to spend time learning on the land and participating in community walks.
World Teachers' Day October 5th
On World Teachers' Day, we would like to recognize and thank our incredible Belfast teachers for the care, dedication, and commitment they bring to their work each day. Their passion for learning, support of students, and strong partnerships with families help create a positive and welcoming school community. We are grateful for all they do to inspire, encourage, and help our students grow. Thank you, teachers, for making a difference every day!
Sport Hub Volleyball Residency
We are excited to welcome the Sport Hub Volleyball Residency to Belfast School beginning next week. Delivered by the City of Calgary in partnership with local sport organizations, this in-school program introduces students to the fundamentals of volleyball in a fun, non-competitive, and inclusive environment. Throughout the residency, experienced coaches will guide students through activities and games that develop key volleyball skills such as serving, bumping, setting, and blocking. The residency runs from October 7 to November 4, with each class receiving a 40-minute volleyball lesson. We are thankful for this opportunity for students to build confidence, teamwork, and a love of physical activity through sport.
YW Calgary Mindfulness Program for Grades 4-6
YW Calgary will begin working with students in Grades 4-6 next week. Through learning strategies to manage stressful situations more effectively, students can build stronger relationships and develop positive coping skills. Each week, students will be introduced to new strategies and real-life scenarios. Concepts will be explored through group discussions, crafts, online resources, and mindfulness practices.
Terry Fox Run Final Count
Thank you to all families who supported the Terry Fox Run by donating to the Terry Fox Foundation. Together, we raised $296.35. Every dollar counts, and we truly appreciate your generosity and support!
Pre-Service Teachers from the Werklund School of Education
We will be welcoming first-year pre-service teachers from the University of Calgary from October 5-16. Pre-service teachers are university students who will be rotating through classrooms to observe teaching and learning at Belfast. We look forward to having them in our school community!
