Dear Families,

We have been engaging the Belfast community in our Truth and Reconciliation Commitment (TRC) for the 2026-2027 school year. Each classroom has been exploring reconciliation through exploring resources such as Spirit Bear’s Guide to Reconciliation, participating in sharing circles, and creating class promises, charters, or commitments. These class agreements are displayed on the bulletin board in our main entrance.

Through this learning, several common themes have emerged, including learning Indigenous languages and stories, learning from Indigenous Elders and Knowledge Keepers, ensuring everyone feels a sense of belonging, showing kindness, and caring for the land where we live, learn, and play.

Based on our engagement with staff, students, and families, we will commit to the following:

Learn and work with Indigenous Elders and Knowledge Keepers to deepen Indigenous students’ relationships to language, culture, community, and learning through songs, stories, and ceremonies shared according to local protocols. (Connects to TRC Calls to Action 62.1, 62.3, 63.1, 63.2)

We look forward to this important work as we continue our journey of reconciliation together.
