Dear Belfast Families,
We have two goals in our School Development Plan (SDP) this year: literacy (writing) and belonging/safety. You can read more about our SDP on our website here
Part of our belonging goal is ensuring students feel connected to many peers and staff members, not just their own teacher or the students in their class. To achieve this goal, we plan many whole-school events, regroup into our cross-graded Communities each month, offer Choice Days twice a year, and run many clubs that students can join that welcome students of various grades.
Currently, we have many clubs running at Belfast: leadership, crochet, mindfulness, art mediation, reading, and next week, we begin PEW intramurals in the gym.
If your child is not a part of a club, we encourage them to join one by asking their teacher who to connect with.
Follow us on Instagram @BelfastSchoolcbe
If you do not see your child on Instagram and would like to, please complete the annual authorization form on myCBE School Engage.
Conference Bookings
School conferences will be Thursday, November 27 from 4:00-8:00 and 8:30-12:00 on Friday, November 28. An email will be sent home early next week with booking information.
Polar Days (Formerly Known as Blue Days)
All students brought home a form this week for Polar Bear Club. When the temperature with windchill is –20 or colder, we spend recess inside; however, if your child signs up for Polar Bear Club, they can go outside until –30 with windchill. Students must have signed forms and be dressed appropriately to participate. Please reach out to your child’s teacher if you didn’t receive the form.
Friends Pizza Night – December 10
Our generous neighbours at Friends Pizza are hosting another evening where they donate sales of pizza back to Belfast. When you order your pizza, just tell them you want the proceeds to go to Belfast School. We raise about $400 each pizza night and that helps our Fundraising Society support our school. We will have more reminders on Instagram. Thank you!
Casino Volunteers Needed – May 23 & 24
Our Parent Fundraising Society receives about $80 000 from the casino. Without this money, we would not have as many trips, technology, residencies, or anything else that makes our school special and helps to meet the needs of our learners. Schools pay for “people and paper” - everything else besides staff and photocopying basically comes from Council.
We will need many people to volunteer at the casino, and will send out sign ups in the new year; in the meantime, please save the date and plan to help out if you can!
Reminder: Annual Giving Tree – Gift Card Donations Accepted!
It’s that time of year again when we begin to collect donations of gift cards to give to fellow Belfast families in need. Starting Monday, you can bring any gift card, in any denomination, to the office. Before winter break, we will distribute the cards to Belfast families in need. If you are purchasing a card, we strongly recommend purchasing cards for places that sell both groceries and other goods, like Superstore or Walmart, so parents can buy what they need and maybe some presents for their children at the holidays. Please drop off donations to Shelley in the main office. Thank you for helping out your fellow Belfast parents!
As always, please do not hesitate to reach out if you have anything you would like to share.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Meagan Lundgren
Principal
