Dear Belfast Families,

Thank you for to everyone who came out to our Remembrance Day ceremony on Thursday.  We had many parents, siblings, and grandparents in attendance, and that is always wonderful to see.  I want to thank Mr. U for organizing a poignant and impressive production in so few days post-strike.  Mr. U had the foresight to begin preparations in September, but that still only left him with seven days to review, adjust, and prepare before Thursday’s ceremony.  We are so fortunate to have such a skilled and dedicated fine arts specialist at Belfast.

I would like to thank our two parent service members, Sailor 2nd Class Vial and Corporal Tran, who came to speak to our students at the assembly.  Not only are these two active military members, but they are Belfast parents and they spoke from the heart at our assembly.  Thank you to both of you for celebrating past contributions and highlighting current roles of the Canadian military.  As one student put it, “Oh my gosh!  There are real soldiers in our school!” The students will remember your visit and messages – thank you!

Fall Break

We would like to remind families that there is no school Monday-Wednesday next week for fall break.  We will see you all on Thursday, November 13.

Welcome to Laura Dumas

Next week, Laura Dumas will be joining Belfast as our second LEAD teacher.  Ms. Dumas is replacing Ms. Hutchison who has been away on a medical leave.  We are excited to have Ms. Dumas join our school community!

New Sensory Room was Built – Thank you to IODE & Dakota Sensory Solutions!

IODE (Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire) is a national women’s charitable organization.  For 125 years, IODE has given back to the community in various ways:  through scholarships, food boxes, volunteer hours, caring for war memorials, and by supporting schools.  You can learn more about this incredible organization here.  Belfast has been so fortunate to be supported by IODE, who has fully funded our new sensory room!

This week, Dakota Sensory Solutions installed the new sensory room and already it is a huge hit!  Dakota Sensory Solutions collaborated with us on the design and then constructed the entire unit.  We are so excited to add even more to this special space over the next month.  Check out Instagram to see our new sensory room!

School Council Meeting – Babysitting Provided!

On Tuesday, November 18 at 6:30, we will have our School Council and Parent Fundraising Society meetings.  We will be sharing our School Development Plan (SDP), outlining some of our key goals and action plans for the year.  We encourage everyone to come out to hear about our SDP, get updates about events, and play a part in the decision-making process at school.
