Dear Belfast Families

One of the holiest months for Muslims, Ramadan focuses on gratitude, compassion for those less fortunate, and self-control.  It is a month of devotion, and is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar.  As always, our school will provide a place for prayer and alternative places to go at lunch if students are fasting.  Ramadan Mubarak to our many students, staff, and families celebrating this holy month.

We would like to remind families that there is no school tomorrow as it is a non-instructional day.

Follow us on Instagram!

We encourage all our families to follow our school’s Instagram account (@BelfastSchoolcbe) and visit our school website to see pictures from the week.  If you do not see your child on Instagram, it may be because they do not have clearance.  Please call the office if you have any questions about clearance.

$83 000 from the Casino!

Thank you to everyone who volunteered to work the casino for the Parent Fundraising Society in the fall, and a special thank you to Sam for being the casino chair; for all of your hard work, the Society received $83 000!  We honestly could not run the school that we do without the funds raised by the Society.  The Parent Fundraising Society pays for so much at our school that many of us take for granted, but would not be possible without them, including:

  • Heavily subsidizing field trips (for instance, $1500 was taken off the upcoming Drumheller trip, saving families almost $30 each)
  • Purchasing new technology
  • Paying for the majority of PEW and Fine Arts residencies (like lacrosse, Alien Inline, cricket, dance, etc.)
  • Enhancing our curriculum with new items like math manipulatives, art supplies, etc.
  • Replacing gym equipment and purchasing new items, like our Gaga Ball pit that will be installed in the spring
  • Bringing in special guests, like Tony Tootoosis, for National Indigenous Peoples’ Day
  • Non-casino fundraising through Ed Matters and Healthy Hunger helps to pay for the Grade 6 Farewell, Belfast t-shirts, SummerFest, the Welcome Back BBQ, and treats for the staff

As a school, we spend 95.5% of our budget on staffing.  We basically pay for “people and paper” and the Fundraising Society does all of the rest.  We would not be the school we are without them and their efforts.

Again, thank you to everyone who volunteered at the Casino, everyone who donates to Ed Matters, everyone who buys a Healthy Hunger lunch for their child – it all makes a difference!

All Evening Events on Hold
