Dear Belfast Families,
We often get questions from families about events coming up at the school, such as when is Family Movie Night? When is the next Fun Lunch? What time is the Grade 6 farewell? We book all school events each spring, and the calendar is shared with families each September. We also include the “Important Dates” section above, and our school’s website is up to date.
If you are ever unsure of when an event is, please visit our online calendar at https://belfast.cbe.ab.ca/calendar

Staffing Update
We are welcoming back Ms. Charis West (Hutchison) from leave. Ms. West will be spending some time over the next few weeks getting used to working again and will be fully back to work after the long weekend in February. We want to thank Ms. Dumas for all of her hard work as the LEAD temp teacher these last few months!
Blanket Exercise: February 26, 6:00 PM (Rescheduled from October)
I will be leading a Blanket Exercise for any interested adults who want to attend. The Blanket Exercise is used to “build understanding about our shared history as Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada by walking through pre-contact, treaty-making, colonization and resistance. Everyone is actively involved as they step onto blankets that represent the land, and into the role of First Nations, Inuit and later Métis peoples. By engaging on an emotional and intellectual level, the Blanket Exercise effectively educates and increases empathy” (Kairos).
It is the story of Canada that many adults did not learn in school, and covers topics like the Indian Act, Residential Schools, and the Sixties Scoop. The exercise is interactive, and as it covers heavy topics, there will be a circle and optional smudge to end the evening in a good way.
If you have any questions, you can read more about what to expect here.
An RSVP is required to prepare, so please email me at mllundgren@cbe.ab.ca if you can make it or want to know more.

Reminder: Supporting Literacy at Home
Belfast School encourages students and parents to share literacy at home. Please have a look at this resource to review simple ways that parents can nurture reading and writing at home. Please speak to your child’s teacher to learn more about their individual next steps in reading and writing.
Reminder: CIWA Free Language Group for Women new to Canada
The Canadian Immigrant Women’s Association offers “a safe and supportive environment for immigrant women to practice and improve their English conversation skills, form meaningful relationships, learn about resources available to them, and share experiences with other immigrant women” (CIWA). There is no commitment to this drop-in program, and they offer both online and in-person drop in sessions. For more information, visit the CIWA page here.
As always, please do not hesitate to reach out if you have anything you would like to share.
