Dear Belfast Families

Next Friday, we say goodbye to a very important member of the Belfast School community: our Facility Operator, Ms. Rizza.  Ms. Rizza is an incredibly kind, competent, and thoughtful person and our school shines because of her diligence and worth ethic.

The staff and students at Belfast School will miss Ms. Rizza, but wish her the best of luck at her new school, West Dalhousie.  We know that Rizza and her pup, Lola, will love having her closer to home!  Thank you, Rizza, for all of your hard work keeping our school safe and clean.  Belfast School loves you!

Follow us on Instagram!

We encourage all our families to follow our school’s Instagram account (@BelfastSchoolcbe) and visit our school website to see pictures from the week.  If you do not see your child on Instagram, it may be because they do not have clearance.  Please call the office if you have any questions about clearance.

Next Year at Belfast – Enrollment Survey

On Wednesday, Belfast families received our yearly enrollment survey. If you haven’t already done so, please complete the survey – it helps us plan for next year. The survey can be found here: https://forms.office.com/r/4cTqmP0ews

Evergreen Theatre Walking Field Trip – Grade 3, 4, 5, 6, LEAD – January 23

Grades 3-6 and LEAD students will attend a free Evergreen Theatre performance on
January 23 at 1:15 PM at the Evergreen Community Spaces location on 8 Avenue NE
(near the 8 Avenue overpass). This is a new production about energy in Alberta.

As this is a walking field trip, there are no forms required; however, if you would like to come to the show with us and you have volunteer clearance, please call the office and let us know. Volunteers should arrive at the school by 1:10 PM.

Reminder:  School Fees Posted

All school fees have been posted to student accounts on MyCBE. Parents/guardians will find the following fees:

  • Lunch Supervision Fee – this is $30.50 per month, from September – June ($305.00 total).  This fee pays for our lunch supervisors, equipment for lunch, and our emergency pantry food items
  • Student Supplies Fee – this is $40 for Grades 1-6 and $20 for kindergarten
  • Fine and Performing Arts – this is a $25 fee that covers our Artist-in-Residence this year and our Yellow Steps residency ($10 for kindergarten).  The fee covers the cost of the
    professionals and supplies.
  • Physical Education & Wellness – this is a $25 fee that covers all of our PEW residencies for the year that are not covered by the Parent Fundraising Society ($10 for kindergarten)
  • Field Trip Fee(s) – these are posted as needed, as our generous Parent Fundraising Society heavily subsidizes these fees for our students.
  • Camp Chief Hector – Grade 5/6 and LEAD only.  This fee will be posted shortly for outdoor school

All fees must be paid online and can be paid in installments.  If you are worried about the cost of fees, please see CBE's Fee Information  for more information.  Families who are unable to afford the fees are encouraged to apply for a waiver here.  Shelley in the main office can help your family with the waiver process if you have any questions.

If you have questions about fees, please reach out to the contact listed on the CBE site here.

Reminder:  Report Cards

This month, all teachers will be completing report cards.  Parents may view report cards online through MyCBE starting on Monday, January 27.  All students receive two report cards throughout the year – in January and in June – but kindergarten report cards look a bit different.

In January, kindergarten students will only receive progress updates for ELAL and math.  In June, all discipline areas will be communicated to parents/legal guardians via the report card.

Reminder:  Skate Night & Celebration of Learning:  Thursday, January 23

Next week, our students begin their Alien In-line skating residency.  We would love for families to come out in the evening on January 23 to watch the students and see what they have learned!  Students will skate while parents watch from the stage.  We wish parents or siblings could join in the skating, but it is only for Belfast students.

There will be a concession at the event (thank you, Parent Fundraising Society!) and all classrooms will be open.

The evening will be student-led: they can show you what they are working on, and there will be familiar games in each room that parents can play with their children.

The school will be open from 5:45-8:00 PM.

Skate times are:

  • 6:00-6:35 – Kinder, Grade 1 & 2
  • 6:40-7:15 – Grades 3 & 4 and LEAD
  • 7:20-7:55 – Grades 5 & 6

We ask that parents help their child get on all of the necessary safety equipment before heading to the stage, so the students are ready to go as quickly as possible.

As always, please do not hesitate to reach out if you have anything you would like to share.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Meagan Lundgren
