Dear Belfast Families,
We had a very exciting and hard-working week in Phys. Ed working with Mr. Alex from Sound Kreations. Mr. Alex taught our students hip hop movements and beats, along with some history or where it originated. The students worked to coordinate moves to the rhythms along with their classmates and were able to complete amazing dances while having fun! - Thank you Mr. Alex, Sound Kreations, School Council, and the Belfast Parent Fundraising Society for this amazing experience!
If you want to see your child’s dance, check out their Google Classroom!

K-3 Assessments
Teachers administer mandatory literacy and numeracy screening assessments in Kindergarten to Grade 3. Assessing learners in their early years provides information about your child’s learning needs. Universal screeners do not replace day-to-day teacher classroom assessment and do not have any impact on formal reporting processes such as report cards; rather, the results of universal screeners help inform planning for next steps in learning. Please speak to your child’s teacher to gain information about K-3 assessments and your child’s learning.
Supporting Literacy at Home
Belfast School encourages students and parents to share literacy at home. Please have a look at this resource to review simple ways that parents can nurture reading and writing at home. Please speak to your child’s teacher to learn more about their individual next steps in reading and writing.
CIWA Free Language Group for Women new to Canada
The Canadian Immigrant Women’s Association offers “a safe and supportive environment for immigrant women to practice and improve their English conversation skills, form meaningful relationships, learn about resources available to them, and share experiences with other immigrant women” (CIWA). There is no commitment to this drop-in program, and they offer both online and in-person drop in sessions. For more information, visit the CIWA page here.
Reminders
Reminder: Report Cards – February
All families should have received an email from the CBE explaining the new report card timelines; these timelines were adjusted due to the strike. Semester 1 report cards can be viewed, downloaded, and printed by families from February 24-May 29. Families can view grades, report cards, attendance, pay fees, and book interviews all through MyCBE
Reminder: Grade 6 Transitions
All Grade 6 families should have received an email from Ms. Evans regarding their child’s designated Grade 7 school, and the steps required if families wish to send their child to another school. If you did not receive this important email, please reach out to Ms. Evans at cleevans@cbe.ab.ca
Reminder: Winterfest: February 26, 10:00-11:30 (Weather Permitting)
We had to push back our Winterfest plans, but we are excited to have it at the end of February. We will have a Carnaval de Quebec-inspired event, including a visit from Bonhomme (the official snowman mascot of Carnaval) and cabane a sucre (Sugar Shack) where students get to prepare a tasty maple syrup treat in the snow. Families are welcome to attend. More information will be sent home in February.
Reminder: School Council Meeting: January 20, 6:30 (online)
