Dear Belfast Families,

Twice a year, we have a Choice Day and today was one of those two days. Choice Day is an opportunity for staff to share their passions with students and teach them something new that they wouldn’t normally have access to learning at school. All students signed up for what interested them the most, and they spent an hour and a half learning something new: from ceramics, to baking; from paper making to a parachute design STEM challenge; from pin hole art to an Ozobots coding maze challenge, there was something for everyone! Report Cards – February

All families should have received an email from the CBE explaining the new report card timelines; these timelines were adjusted due to the strike. Semester 1 report cards can be viewed, downloaded, and printed by families from February 24-May 29. Families can view grades, report cards, attendance, pay fees, and book interviews all through MyCBE

Grade 6 Transitions

All Grade 6 families should have received an email from Ms. Evans regarding their child’s designated Grade 7 school, and the steps required if families wish to send their child to another school. If you did not receive this important email, please reach out to Ms. Evans at cleevans@cbe.ab.ca

We Need a Grade 6 Farewell Parent Coordinator!

The person who was going to be the Grade 6 Farewell Parent Coordinator is no longer able to take on that role. We need a parent who is willing to lead a group of parents to ensure the event runs smoothly. If you are interested, please contact Mrs. Lundgren at mllundgren@cbe.ab.ca Thank you!

Winterfest: February 26, 10:00-11:30 (Weather Permitting)

We had to push back our Winterfest plans, but we are excited to have it at the end of February. We will have a Carnaval de Quebec-inspired event, including a visit from Bonhomme (the official snowman mascot of Carnaval) and cabane a sucre (Sugar Shack) where students get to prepare a tasty maple syrup treat in the snow. Families are welcome to attend. More information will be sent home in February.

School Council Meeting: January 20, 6:30 (online)

Our virtual School Council & Parent Fundraising Society meeting will be Tuesday, January 20 at 6:30. Ms. Szymanek will be sharing some physical education updates and as always, there will be opportunities to hear from the school and to share your views with administration. Reminder: Kindergarten Open House & Registration for 2026-2027

Do you have a child turning 5 by December 31, 2026? If so, we would love to have them at Belfast School for kindergarten!

We invite all prospective kindergarten families to join us for our Kindergarten Open House on Thursday, January 15, from 6:00-7:00 PM. The evening will include:

  • A short presentation and overview of the kindergarten program at Belfast
  • A fun scavenger hunt that will allow you and your child to explore the school
  • Current kindergarten students & parents available to share their experiences
  • Engaging centres in the kindergarten room for your child to explore
  • The opportunity to meet staff and ask questions

While parents attend the presentation, our Grade 5/6 certified babysitters and some of our amazing teachers will keep our future kindergarten students entertained in the gym. If your child is nervous about leaving you, no worries – they can stay with you for the presentation! More information about the open house can be found here

If you are unable to make the Open House, you can always reach out to book a school tour. We love having families visit during the day to see what our school is all about!
