Dear Belfast Families,

As we know, CUPE staff, including caretakers, will begin a strike starting Monday.  All CBE schools remain open and classes will continue; however, a strike will have an impact on schools and operations.  For more information about the strike, please visit the labour action web page.

We also want to remind families that there is no school next Friday as it is a professional learning day for teachers.

Follow us on Instagram!

We encourage all our families to follow our school’s Instagram account (@BelfastSchoolcbe) and visit our school website to see pictures from the week.  If you do not see your child on Instagram, it may be because they do not have clearance.  Please call the office if you have any questions about clearance.

Ramadan

One of the holiest months for Muslims, Ramadan focuses on gratitude, compassion for those less fortunate, and self-control.  It is a month of devotion, and is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar.  As always, our school will provide a place for prayer and alternative places to go at lunch if students are fasting.  Ramadan Mubarak to our many students, staff, and families celebrating this holy month.

Family Movie Night – Evening Events Paused

At this time, afterschool family events are paused as a result of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 40 labour action.  For more information, please visit the labour action web page. More information about evening community events will be forthcoming.

School Council Meeting is now Online Tuesday at 6:30

This month’s School Council & Parent Fundraising Society meeting is now online due to the CUPE strike that begins Monday.  This is an important meeting as we will share our School Development Plan progress and discuss our school budget and fees.  We encourage all parents to attend via Microsoft Teams:  Meeting Link

Meeting ID: 214 202 118 085

Passcode: 7iJ2BJ9f

Pink Shirt Day is February 26

Each year on Pink Shirt Day, we encourage students and staff to wear pink to show their commitment to kindness and respect.  When we all wear pink, we show a unified commitment to ensuring a welcoming, safe, respectful, and caring school.  For more information on Pink Shirt Day, please visit this website

Nation’s Vision Success

Over the course of one week, 111 Belfast students had their eyes examined for free from the optometrists at Nation’s Vision.  Thank you to Nation’s Vision for supporting our students and families for the second year in a row!

Veteran’s Food Bank Success

The Veteran’s Food Bank thanked our school for donating $820.16 of laundry products and $233 in cash to their charity earlier this year.  For such a little school, we sure do an amazing job supporting others!

Reminder:  The Importance of Paying Fees:  Field Trips & School Fees

As a small school, we cannot afford to cover the cost of unpaid field trip fees. Our Belfast Fundraising Society heavily subsidizes the cost of field trips for us, and we are fortunate that our parents are only asked to pay a partial amount. Right now, our school is waiting for over $2000 to be paid for field trips to The Confluence (Grades 3 & 4), The Rothney Observatory (Grades 5/6), The Calgary Zoo (Grades 1 &2), and the kindergarten virtual field trip.

In addition to the $2000 in field trip fees, we are also waiting for $5300 in school fees to be paid.

We are asking families to please log into MyCBE this weekend and pay your fees if you are able.  If the total cost of the trip or school fee is difficult for your family, please pay in installments with what you can afford.

We want to continue to offer amazing on-campus and off-site learning opportunities for our students and need parent help to do so! Thank you in advance!
