Dear Belfast Families,

The last few weeks before winter break will be busy: we have two winter concerts, Communities, spirit days, a pizza lunch, and daily caroling for the last week.  Although this time of year is always a bit chaotic, learning continues to be our main focus.  We will be having a lot of fun while we learn, but we will still be learning!

One of our SDP goals this year is belonging, and through events like the ones we have over the next two weeks, we continue to build a sense of belonging and feeling at Belfast.  We want all of our students, staff, and families to feel proud to be part of our school, to feel welcomed, and feel cared for.  I know keeping track of all of the spirit days, fundraisers, and events is a lot for parents, and I want to thank you for supporting all of our school initiatives.

Follow us on Instagram!

We encourage all our families to follow our school’s Instagram account (@BelfastSchoolcbe) and visit our school website to see pictures from the week.  If you do not see your child on Instagram, it may be because they do not have clearance.  Please call the office if you have any questions about clearance.

December Spirit Days

Leadership Club has planned some Spirit Days for the last week of school.  Students were mindful to be inclusive, as many of our families do not celebrate Christmas so we didn’t want it all to be about that one celebration.  Here is the plan:

  • All week: caroling in the gym at 8:35ish.  Families welcome.  Will be about 20 minutes each morning
  • Monday, December 16 – Sports Day/Jersey Day
  • Tuesday, December 17 – Grinch Day (wear green and red)
  • Wednesday, December 18 – Formal Day (dress up in fancy clothes)
  • Thursday, December 19 – Ugly Sweater/Festive Day & Pizza Lunch Day
  • Friday, December 20 – PJ/Stuffie Day & a dance party to end the day

bELFast Elf Visiting Again?

We have had many kids ask if the elf will be back again this year.  Last year, we had our real-life bELFast elf visit our school each morning during the last week of school, and she got into some mischief, but also shared some treats with the students. If the bELFast elf was going to visit again this year, it would be in the morning again, so we encourage families to be on time during this last week of school. For Thursday, December 19, we heard rumors that if the elf does come, she may bring a special guest, so this day it is even more important to be on time!  We hope the elf will return this year – why wouldn’t she want to visit our amazing students?!

Dental Consent Forms– Grade 2, 6, & LEAD Classes

Students in Grades 2, 6, and LEAD were visited by the Alex Dental Hygienist; these students learned how dental health contributes to overall health and how to keep their teeth clean. As part of this initiative, students are offered a full dental check-up, including fluoride and molar sealants. Check-ups are FREE and will be held in the mobile dental office in January. Please return your child’s consent form ASAP to ensure they are seen.

Kindergarten Registration and Open House – Save the Dates!

If you have a child coming into kindergarten next year, or know somebody who does, we would love to have them at Belfast!  Kindergarten registration opens on Monday, January 13, and we will have our Open House on Thursday, January 16, from 6:30-7:30 PM. Please pass on this information to any parents you know who have children coming into kindergarten! For more information about kindergarten in the CBE, please visit the link here

Reminder:  Belfast Giving Tree – Donate Gift Cards for Families!

We do our best to look after the families at our school, and there are some who could use a little extra this holiday season.  Just as we did last year, we are collecting gift cards (from any location, for any denomination) to disperse to our Belfast families who could use the support.  We will be collecting gift cards until December 16.

Please bring your gift cards to the front office, with the dollar value clearly labelled.  Gift cards for places like Walmart and Superstore allow families to get food, clothing, and presents, so those are always encouraged.  Thank you in advance for helping out fellow Belfast students and families!

Reminder:  Pizza Lunch: Thursday, December 19 – Kindergarten Included!

Our friends at the local 7-11 are providing pizza for students to purchase on the last full day of classes, December 16.  For $5, your child will receive two pieces of pizza.  They can choose between cheese or pepperoni.  Forms will be sent home on Monday, and all forms and money are due by December 10.  Students must pay in advance to ensure supply.  Money raised will go directly to our Parent Fundraising Society.  Kindergarten students will have pizza dropped off at 11:20 to enjoy before pick-up, or they can choose to take it home.

As always, please do not hesitate to reach out if you have anything you would like to share.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Meagan Lundgren
