Belfast Parent Update | November 24
Important Dates
- Tuesday, November 28 – Grade 6 field trip to YouthLink Interpretive Police Centre; School Council
 - December 1 – 7 – Rocks and Rings in PE

Dear Belfast Families,
We hope to see you all at our school conferences tonight and tomorrow. If you were unable to book online, please email your child’s teacher to schedule a time. We know that students are most successful when the family, students, and staff are all on the same page and have open, regular communication. In addition to the communication, another benefit of our in-person conferences is being able to see your child’s learning spaces and all of their work in the halls and classroom. Thank you in advance for coming in and working with your child’s teacher to ensure your child’s success!
We encourage all our families to follow our school’s Instagram account (@BelfastSchoolcbe) and visit our school website to see pictures from the week.
Staffing Updates
Ms. Teasdale will be on leave until the winter break, and we wish her the best. We are fortunate to have Sophia Burgess in for her while she is away. Sophia taught many of the Grade 6 students when they were in Grade 4. Welcome back to Belfast, Ms. Burgess!
We are in the process of hiring a second Education Assistant and will keep you posted when we have the successful candidate.
Dental Care for your Children
Belfast School is on the waitlist for next year to have the AHS dental health bus come out to our school to support student dental needs. If your family is struggling to provide dental support for your child(ren), you can call the dental bus program directly at 403-615-9052 and they can connect you to the community outreach location that is available so you can access services at any time. Thank you to the Belfast parent who recommended this service for other families!
Digital Decodable Library – Worth a Visit!
The CBE has created a digital library of decodable reading materials for teachers and families. This is an amazing site for beginning readers to access reading materials at home and at school. The site will continue to be updated on a regular basis. You can find these resources here
Opera Update
As you know, we are a “Let’s Create an Opera!” school through Calgary Opera. We are pleased to update you that the librettist has finished writing the opera and we have the draft at school! Our students came up with the ideas, and the librettist created “The Battle for Belfast”. Are you all excited to know what the “Battle for Belfast” is all about?!?! Stay tuned....
Our next step for the opera is to meet with the composer who will begin to create the music.
Reminder: Belfast Parent Fundraising Society’s New Fundraiser
The Belfast Parent Fundraising Society is trying something new! In an effort to maximize the impact of our fundraising initiatives and make it more convenient for everyone, we have decided to focus on one major fundraiser for this school year. Click HERE for more information. Your support is valuable and appreciated. Please note that this fundraiser replaces smaller fundraisers throughout the year. As of today, we have raised $3000! Thank you so much to everyone who donated!
Reminder: Check your Child’s Grades Online!
In an effort to ensure families are kept up-to-date with student progress, our teachers are updating grades online. Parents can log onto myCBE to see their child’s assessment at any time. Please see this short video to learn how to view your child’s grades. If you would prefer a step by step written guide, you can access that here.here. We encourage all of our families to log in regularly to see how your child is doing, and to reach out to the teacher if you have any questions or concerns. Report cards should never be a surprise!
Reminder: The Giving Tree – Belfast Families Helping Belfast Families
Each year, the Belfast School community supports some of our families at Christmas. We are currently accepting gift cards in the office (please attach a receipt that has the activation information on it) for any store in any denomination. On December 15, we will distribute the gift cards to families.
If you would like your family to be considered for the Giving Tree, or would like to bring forward another family to receive the Giving Tree gift cards, please contact the school office. All family information will be kept confidential.
Reminder: Winter Concert December 14
All students will be performing at our Winter Concert on Thursday, December 14. We will have two shows: one at 1:30 PM and one at 6:30 PM. Due to space constraints, we ask that only immediate family come to the evening performance; grandparents and other extended family members are encouraged to come to the afternoon performance. We will be collecting cash donations for the Calgary Food Bank at both performances.
As always, please do not hesitate to reach out if you have anything you would like to share.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Meagan Lundgren
Principal
