Dear Belfast Families,
We had an exciting week with our new Motor Lab opening on the stage. The Motor Lab was created by our Occupational Therapist (OT) and Physical Therapist (PT), and it provides students a chance to regulate and burn some energy. Our two EAs and our two ELL Assistants are now all trained to lead students through the Motor Lab and students have started to use it when they need a break. We are excited about this new addition! Check out some pictures of our new Motor Lab on Instagram!
We encourage all our families to follow our school’s Instagram account (@BelfastSchoolcbe) and visit our school website to see pictures from the week.
Opera Auditions for Grades 4-6: February 6 and 8
As you know, we are part of Calgary Opera’s Let’s Create an Opera and we are putting on our own opera in the spring: The Battle for Belfast! We will be holding auditions for lead roles on February 6 and 8 during the school day. The director of the opera will be selecting the lead roles, not the school. If your child is interested in auditioning, more information and permission forms will be sent home on Monday. Due to the volume of memorization, the auditions are only open to Grade 4, 5, and 6 students.
Report Cards & Family Communication
You will be able to view your child’s report card through myCBE beginning on January 30
Report cards are one of the ways schools communicate how students are progressing in their learning. Teachers share learning progress and curriculum information throughout the school year in many other ways. In order for parent(s)/guardians to stay well-informed, we encourage you to:
· Talk to your child about their school day
· Regularly check Google Classroom for learning task details, assessment criteria, and resources
· Familiarize yourself with myCBE’s grade portal for up-to-date assessment information
· Look over work that is sent home with your child and discuss the work with your child. Parents may ask questions like, “What did this task involve? How did you know you were successful? What is your next step? What did you learn from this? Why is it important?”
· Attend school conferences with your child. Conferences are held each year in November and March
· Carefully read teacher and school weekly updates
· Consider volunteering in your child’s classroom or attending a field trip to see learning in action
· Promptly reach out to your child’s teacher if you have questions or concerns about your child’s learning
Thank you for working with us to support student learning.

Reminder: Kindergarten Registration is Ongoing
Kindergarten registration opened January 15 online through MyCBE/School Engage.. Registration is ongoing, but from a school perspective, the sooner, the better. The earlier we know our projected numbers for next year, the better we can plan. If you have questions about the registration process, please call Kari in the office!
