Dear Belfast Families,
Thank you to everyone who attended our winter concerts yesterday. The students did an amazing job and really showcased how strong our fine arts program is at Belfast. We are thankful to have Mr. U as our full-time fine arts teacher – he put on a fantastic show while also preparing the students for the opera! Thank you, Mr. U! Thank you also to the rest of the staff who supported our concerts, like Ms. Forrest and Ms. Fouzia who organized the programs, and Ms. Evans who helped with the set design and set up. I would like to thank Kristina P., a parent volunteer, and Ms. Evans’ husband, Dean, for creating and building our beautiful set. As I shared last night, it means so much to our students to see their families in the audience - I love seeing the look on their faces when they spot their special people as the curtains open. We were blown away by the turnout at both concerts and are so thankful for all of you!
Next week is our final week of school before the break, and it is a busy one! We hope that students will show their spirit by participating in Leadership Club’s spirit days. Our school will be sharing the spirit of the holidays with members of our community as we gather to create postcards for seniors living in assisted living facilities by our school. We will also have our own school Elf on the Shelf each morning – it's a large one, so students should be able to spot it! Will our Elf be inside? Outside? Who knows!
We encourage all our families to follow our school’s Instagram account (@BelfastSchoolcbe) and visit our school website to see pictures from the week.
Free Eye Exams for Everyone at School
Our school is very fortunate to have been selected by Nation’s Vision, which will provide a free eye exam during school hours to all students. Not only does Nation’s Vision screen all of our students, but they help secure eyeglasses to students who need them at significantly reduced rates based on what families can afford.
The clinic will take place during school hours in February. Consent forms and additional information will be sent home the first week back to school in the new year.
Reminder: Food Bank Cash Donations – Donate December 11-22
Our school is collecting cash donations (no physical food!) for the Calgary Food Bank. Did you know that for every $1 donated, the Calgary Food Bank can get $5 worth of food due to their purchasing power, volunteer resources, and operations? Donating money is the most impactful way to help the food bank. We will collect donations until the morning of December 22.
Reminder: Tell your Friends: Kindergarten Registration & Open House
We will be hosting an Open House for prospective kindergarten parents on Wednesday, January 17 from 6:30-7:30. If you have a child coming into kindergarten, or know someone who does, please join us! Kindergarten registration in the CBE will open on January 15. For more information on kindergarten registration, please check out the CBE registration page and the kindergarten information sheet herehere
Reminder: Polar Bear Club Beginning
We are excited to launch our Polar Bear Club at lunch recess. What is Polar Bear Club? The CBE has a policy that students do not go outside if the temperature is –20 or colder (with windchill). Polar Bear Club is meant for students who are interested in going outside on days between –20 to –30 with windchill. To participate in Polar Bear Club, students must have proper winter clothing and have parent permission. Students will stay outside for part or all of the lunch recess, depending on weather. If you need another copy of the permission form, please contact your child’s teacher.
As always, please do not hesitate to reach out if you have anything you would like to share.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Meagan Lundgren
Principal
