Dear Belfast families,

Tomorrow is World Teachers’ Day and I want to take a moment to recognize and thank Belfast’s amazing teachers.  Our teachers here are kind, competent, and hardworking, and they truly put students first in all that they do.  Our teachers know our kids so well, and they go above and beyond to build strong relationships so our students – and families – feel safe and welcomed at our school.

Please take a moment to send your child’s teacher a thank you email – this small gesture goes a very long way!

We encourage all our families to follow our school’s Instagram account (@BelfastSchoolcbe) and visit our school website to see pictures from the week.

World Teachers’ Day Contest

In celebration of World Teachers’ Day, the Alberta Teachers’ Association wants to hear from students about the Alberta teacher who inspired them! Students can share a short selfie video expressing their gratitude and have the chance to win $100 and their teacher could win a prize worth $3,000! Visit https://teachers.ab.ca/events/world-teachers-day-video-contest for more information. Deadline: October 11, 2024.

Request:  Clean, Used Pants

In any elementary school, we have students who have accidents at times and need a fresh change of clothes at school.  We are looking for donations of pants from size 4T – size 8/10.  If you have some pants to donate, please drop them off in the office.  Thank you!

Book Fair Success – Thank You!

Thank you to our families for your support of our book fair during Meet the Teacher night.  We earned $750 for books for our library!  Thank you to Ms. Barrowcliff and her daughter, Emily, for organizing and running the book fair!

Terry Fox Total – Thank You!

As a school, we raised $361.55 through our “Toonies for Terry” fundraiser.  Thank you to everyone who donated towards cancer research!

Walk for Wenjack – School-wide Goal of 600 KM this October

Throughout the month of October, our students will be participating in Walk for Wenjack.  Chanie Wenjack was trying to walk home from his Residential School – a distance of 600 KM – but he tragically passed away on his journey.  We will walk 600 KM as an act of remembrance and reconciliACTION in honour of Chanie and all Residential School victims and survivors.  For more information about Chanie, visit https://downiewenjack.ca/our-work/walk-for-wenjack/ .  We did our first walk today and already crossed off 30 KM of our 600 KM goal!

Calgary Bridge Foundation for Youth – Supports for Newcomers

Please see the attached brochure below for information about how CBFY supports students new to Canada.  Please reach out to your settlement worker or the school if you have any questions about support.

Reminder:  Cold Weather Clothing

As we head into the colder months, we encourage our families to reach out if your family is in need of warm clothing and boots, as we are connected with Jacket Racket and Boots for Kids.  If you need any winter clothing (coats, snowpants, or boots), contact Kari in the office at klforrest@cbe.ab.ca.  Please include your child’s name, class, and size.

Reminder:  Healthy Hunger Orders

Thank you to our parent coordinator, Alisha, for organizing the Fun Lunches for the school year.  Once a month, families have the opportunity to purchase a special lunch for their child from a local restaurant.  School Council receives a small percentage of all sales that they give back to the school through items such as Belfast School shirts and events like Summerfest.  To order your child’s lunches, please set up an account at https://healthyhunger.ca .  If you would you like your child to receive lunch, but are unable to financially participate, please reach out to us.

As always, please do not hesitate to reach out if you have anything you would like to share.

Have a wonderful weekend,
