Dear Belfast Families,
We have been working on our Calgary Opera performance, “The Battle for Belfast”, since the fall. We are so excited to share the final product with you next week! Here are some things you need to know about the performances:
· Wednesday, June 5 – Matinee performance, 1:30 PM. We encourage families to attend this show, particularly if any extended family is planning on attending
· Thursday, June 6 – Evening performance, 6:30 PM. There are roughly TWO seats allocated per family. If you have more than two people planning to attend, please plan to attend our matinee performance so that we do not have to turn people away
Every single student has a role in the opera and we know families are excited to see their children perform. We would be very disappointed to have to turn people away, and ask that you please respect the seat limit.
The Parent Fundraising Society will be accepting donations at the door during both performances. The funds collected are for Belfast t-shirts for our kindergarten and other new students next year.
We encourage all our families to follow our school’s Instagram account (@BelfastSchoolcbe) and visit our school website to see pictures from the week.
Safe Pick up and Drop off Practices
This past week, we have watched parents park across the street from the school and encourage their children to jaywalk across the road. For everyone’s safety, please ensure that you and your children are using the crosswalk at all times. We have also had parents stopping in the middle of the road to pick up and drop off. Please pull over completely to pick up your child; this keeps everyone safe and keeps traffic flowing. Thank you for your support in keeping our students safe.
You’re Invited to Run!
On Thursday, June 13, we will be hosting our second annual Ever Active Schools Fun Run. Last year, we had to move inside due to the smoke, but we are hoping for clear skies this year.
We would love for families to join us in our run. If you’d like to run, or just cheer on our runners, please be on the back field for 1:30. Our students will meet you out there after they attend a short assembly.
Thank you to Ms. Tuck and her Run Club for bringing this awesome event back to Belfast! Thank you also to Ms. Jenn from Ever Active Schools for supporting our school with these initiatives.
You’re Invited to Celebrate!
On Thursday, June 20, we will host Tony Tootoosis and his family for the second year in a row to celebrate National Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Beginning at 1:30 on the back field, we will listen to Tony share his stories and his pride about his culture. After Tony’s speech, we will be gifted a learning experience about Indigneous culture, history, and spirituality as we watch Tony and his family dance, including chicken, grass, and jingle traditional dances. We will end the morning with a community round dance. We invite all of our families to attend this special afternoon, and hope our kindergarten students can attend with their families as well!
June is National Indigenous History Month
Throughout June, we will be celebrating the cultures, histories, traditions, and achievements of First Nations, Inuit, and Metis peoples in Canada. At Belfast, we have a school challenge, that includes 25 Indigenous activities and teachings that we hope the students will engage in throughout the month. Check out our Instagram throughout the month to see the teaching and learning taking place.
The CBE has created an amazing June Wellness Challenge (attached below) for families to do together this month, that is designed to (re)align your spirt/heart/body/mind during the month of June. See the attachment below!
Recognizing Pride Month
June is Pride Month, a time to recognize the pursuit of equality and rights for 2SLGBTQ+ individuals. The CBE strives to ensure our schools are safe, welcoming, and caring places for all students and staff. As a public school system, we welcome and celebrate students from diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and beliefs. The CBE is committed to creating safe and caring learning and work environments for 2SLGBTQ+ students and staff.
Reminder: Field Trip Fees are Due
We are very fortunate to have had many field trips over the past month, and have many more coming up next month. Please remember to pay your fees online through myCBE. You are able to make partial payments if the cost of the entire trip is not within your current budget. We are very thankful to the Belfast Parent Fundraising Society for generously subsidizing our trips this year.
As always, please do not hesitate to reach out if you have anything you would like to share.
Have a wonderful weekend,
