Dear Belfast Families, We had a wonderful turnout for our Volunteer Tea today, and our Leadership Club students did a fabulous job serving all of our special guests. In the past year, we have almost tripled the number of volunteers at Belfast – wow! We know that many volunteers were unable to come today due to work or other commitments, so I want to take a moment to say a very sincere THANK YOU to everyone who supports our school through volunteering. Whether you supervise field trips, help out in the office, spend time in the classroom, help with props and costumes for productions, we thank you! We couldn’t do all of our amazing Belfast events and incredible learning without you. We encourage all our families to follow our school’s Instagram account (@BelfastSchoolcbe) and visit our school website to see pictures from the week. No School Tomorrow or Monday We would like to remind families there is no school tomorrow (PD Day) or Monday (Victoria Day). Our staff will be working at Erin Woods School tomorrow as we collaborate with that school and Vista Heights on Physical Education and Wellness activities. We wish all of you a wonderful long weekend! See you Tuesday! Nice Weather = Increased Time Outside! With the nicer weather, our students spend much more time outside, including eating lunch and snacks outside. Our gym is also being used for opera rehearsals, so all PEW classes are taking place outside. We would like to remind families to ensure students are dressed appropriately for the changing Calgary weather.: · Hats are always a good idea for sunny day · Jackets are important, even if it is sunny in the morning when you leave home. · Please note that students are unable to share bug repellent or sunscreen, so if you want to send those items with your child, please ensure they can apply it themselves and know they can’t share with classmates. Reminder: Field Trips Galore! We have had many field trips these past few weeks, and have even more coming up through the rest of May and June. Families play a significant role in ensuring the success of field trips. Families can help the school by: · Getting volunteer clearance and attending a trip · Arriving on time for drop off and pick up. We’ve had a few students miss a trip due to late arrivals, and that is disappointing for all involved · Ensuring your child is well-equipped for the day (dressed appropriately, enough water and food, etc.) · Thanking your child’s teacher for the extra work that goes into planning these special events · Paying your field trip fees online through myCBE. Parents are able to pay field trip fees in installments. If the cost is a concern for you, please reach out; otherwise, we thank you for your prompt payments. For a school as small as Belfast, we simply can’t afford to cover the cost of the trips and depend on parent fees. · Thanking a member of our School Council or Parent Fundraising Society. We are fortunate to have a generous Parent Fundraising Society who has offset the cost of field trips this year by over $5000. · Volunteering at our Fundraising Society’s casino in October. The majority of the Society’s funds come from the casino. If you volunteer, you will get to meet new people and enjoy a free meal! Stay tuned for sign up opportunities for the casino! Reminder: Grade 6 Farewell Just a reminder to our Grade 6 families: 1. Please send your three pictures to Gregory at gdosmond@gmail.com by May 31. Please use “Belfast” in the subject heading 2. If you would like to help out on the committee, please contact Cheryl at cheryldueck@gmail.com We are looking for help with decorations, food, and music. Reminder: Opera Update We are right on track for our Opera production, and can’t wait to perform for all of you at one of our two shows: · Wednesday, June 5 – Matinee at 1:30 · Thursday, June 6 – Evening performance at 6:30 Just as we did with the winter concert, we plan for immediate family (roughly two tickets per student) to attend the evening performance; all extended family should attend the matinee performance. We would be so disappointed to have to turn people away from the evening performance, and ask for your support in adhering to this plan. As always, please do not hesitate to reach out if you have anything you would like to share. Have a wonderful weekend, Meagan Lundgren |
