Dear Belfast Families,

Wow – it is wild to think we are going into our last week for the 2025-2026 school year!  It has been a wonderful year of learning, community, and growth.  We are excited for this final week together – it will be a busy, exciting, sometimes emotional, and celebratory week!

Does your Child Need to Come in Early Next Year?

If you feel your child would benefit from coming in before school starts next year, please email Shelley at sngayford@cbe.ab.ca and she will organize an opportunity for your child.  If your child is anxious about change, worried about school, or just needs a little extra TLC before a new school year, we invite them in to pick their seat, their coat hook, and meet their teacher in a quiet, calm way.  The tentative date for these visits is Thursday, August 27 in the PM.  Stay tuned for more information in the Back to School emails.

New Principal at the School Tuesday

Belfast’s new principal, Shafina Dharamsi, will be at the playground doors on Tuesday morning greeting students and families.  She will then visit each classroom that morning.  Welcome to Belfast, Ms. Dharamsi!

Interviews for the new Assistant Principal of Belfast will take place next week.  We will keep you posted!

Welcome to Ms. Beverley Nelson

Ms. Nelson is coming to Belfast next year to teach Grade 2/3.  Ms. Nelson is coming to us from Douglas Harkness School, and we are thrilled to have her expertise at our school!

Tootoosis Family & Round Dance – this Wednesday!

We invite everyone to come out to our National Indigenous Peoples’ Day round dance with the Tootoosis family on Wednesday at 10:15 AM.  This event is always a beautiful celebration of culture and community!  This was rescheduled from last week.

Kindergarten Jumps into Grade 1 and Grade 6 Farewell

On Thursday, we celebrate two milestones for our youngest and oldest students:

  • 11:00 AM – in the garden (inside if weather is not good) - Kindergarten will jump into Grade 1.  All kindergarten families are invited to attend this fun event
  • 1:30 PM – in the gym then the garden – Grade 6 farewell.  An RSVP was required for this event as food is being served.  The Grade 6 students will have a farewell celebration in the gym, followed by treats in the garden.  All Belfast siblings of Grade 6 students will be invited to join in the event.

For both events, parents are welcome to sign out their children to take them home if the festivities end before dismissal time.

Clap out Friday at Dismissal – All Departing Students and Staff

Our annual Grade 6 clap out will happen on Friday at dismissal.  Students will line the halls and clap out the exiting Grade 6 students, who will all leave through the playground doors.  We invite all families to line up outside the playground doors and clap out our sixes, any other students who are leaving the school, and our staff who are moving on.

Happy Father’s Day

To all the amazing Belfast dads, and those who have stepped into the dad role for our students, THANK YOU!  We have so many strong male role models supporting our students and we are grateful for the love, support, and care you bring to them.  We wish you all a wonderful Father’s Day this Sunday.

As always, please do not hesitate to reach out if you have anything you would like to share.
