New Principal Announcement
As we shared yesterday, Shafina Dharamsi is the new principal coming to Belfast. She is lovely and she has heard me brag about the school for years, so she was excited to be able to move here! She will be hiring her new AP in the next couple of weeks – stay tuned!
Mr. Ursenbach Moving
Mr. Ursenbach will be moving to Killarney School next year to become their full-time fine arts teacher. Mr. U is a beloved member of our school community and has built an exceptional fine arts program. He leaves big shoes to fill, but we know Ms. Dharamsi will hire someone who is up for the challenge!
Mr. Ursenbach has been an integral part of the Belfast community for seven years, and it was not an easy decision for him to make, but it is what is best for his family and career. Killarney School is so lucky to get his expertise, and we wish him the best of luck next year!
Ms. Szymanek Moving
Ms. Szymanek has built an incredible PEW program at Belfast over the past two years, but we no longer had the funds to continue to have a 0.5 PEW specialist. We are happy to announce that Ms. S has found a 0.5 PEW position at Buchanan School.
We have learned so much from Ms. S and our program is so much stronger because of the capacity she built in all our staff. Congratulations on your new appointment, Ms. S. We will miss you!
Staffing Updates
Congratulations to our temp teachers who have secured full-time contracts for next year:
- Veronika Horluts at Queen Elizabeth School
- Leonie Quedenbaum is staying with us next year at Belfast!
New Hires
We are pleased to welcome the following new staff to Belfast:
- Paige Bodio – Kindergarten (from Thorncliffe School)
- Paul Millar – Grade 4/5 (from Sunnyside School)
- We continue to interview for the other Grade 2/3 and 4/5 positions
Tootoosis Family & Round Dance
We invite everyone to come out to our National Indigenous Peoples’ Day round dance with the Tootoosis family on Wednesday at 10:15 AM. This event is always a beautiful celebration of culture and community!
AGMs Next Week
We will have our Council and Society AGMs next week, on Tuesday at 6:30 PM. Babysitting will be provided.
