Dear Belfast Families,

Thank you to everyone who volunteered at the casino last week.  Without your generosity, we would not be able to fund many initiatives at the school.  By donating your time, our school will receive about $90 000, thus providing many incredible experiences for our students, while keeping fees low for families.

Staffing Update – Ms. Medland

We will be saying goodbye to Ms. Medland at the end of this school year.  Ms. Medland lives in a community about an hour east of the city and has spent years commuting to Belfast because she loves the school.  That being said, the commute is long – especially in winter- and she has the wonderful opportunity to teach on Siksika Nation, right by her house.  We know Ms. Medland has taught many of your children at Belfast, and she will be missed.  We wish her the best of luck!

Farewell RSVP Reminder

Just a reminder to our Grade 6 families to RSVP to Shelley at sngayford@cbe.ab.ca by June 11 so we can buy food and supplies

National Indigenous History Month in June

As we have done for the last three years, for the month of June, all classes will be participating in a National Indigenous History Month BINGO.  Throughout the month, classes celebrate Indigenous history, culture, and ways of being and knowing through engaging tasks.  Each class will smudge with Mrs. Lundgren, make Cree oatmeal, create inspired art, spend time on the land, listen to Indigenous music, play Indigenous games, and so on.  It is always a fun month of learning and celebration! We are excited to welcome the Tootoosis family on June 17 at 10:15 AM for our annual round dance, and have them share teachings and dancing with us.  We invite all families to attend!

Outstanding Fee Notices Sent Home

We are sending home outstanding fee sheets to all students today and Monday.  Your child will bring home a physical piece of paper that shows what is outstanding.  We ask parents to pay all fees online by the end of the school year.  You can pay your fees atMyCBE.  Outstanding fees from previous years are noted as well.  Please be aware that your child’s fees will continue to accumulate throughout their school years, and students must clear up any outstanding fees before graduation.  These are school based fees only; central fees like lunch supervision are handled by the system, but all are payable online. Please do not send money to the school – you will need to pay through the portal.

Reminder: Lunch with a Loved One

On Wednesday, June 10, we will have our Lunch with a Loved One, starting at 12:15 PM.  This will be a picnic-style lunch and anyone is welcome to come – parents, grandparents, a special coach...anyone who is special to your child!  If you are unable to have anyone attend, don’t worry – all staff will be outside eating with students!

We will have yard games set up and it is a casual time to eat lunch with someone we love and spend time outside playing together.  Lunch will last around one hour.

If the weather does not cooperate, we will pivot and move inside that day – just as we did last year!

***Correction:  This is NOT a Fun Lunch day as well – please bring your own lunch!
