Dear Belfast Families,

This week, we had two fire alarm issues, and in both instances, the staff and students did exactly what they were supposed to do: they stayed calm, exited the school quickly, and waited outside until the fire trucks arrived.  We practice six fire drills a year, and the importance of that practice was evident this week.  We are happy to report that the fire alarm issue has been resolved, and we should not have any more surprises!

Kindergarten Open House & Registration for 2026-2027

Do you have a child turning 5 by December 31, 2026?  If so, we would love to have them at Belfast School for kindergarten!

We invite all prospective kindergarten families to join us for our Kindergarten Open House on Thursday, January 15, from 6:00-7:00 PM.  The evening will include:

  • A short presentation and overview of the kindergarten program at Belfast
  • A fun scavenger hunt that will allow you and your child to explore the school
  • Current kindergarten students & parents available to share their experiences
  • Engaging centres in the kindergarten room for your child to explore
  • The opportunity to meet staff and ask questions

While parents attend the presentation, our Grade 5/6 certified babysitters and some of our amazing teachers will keep our future kindergarten students entertained in the gym.  If your child is nervous about leaving you, no worries – they can stay with you for the presentation!  More information about the open house can be found here

If you are unable to make the Open House, you can always reach out to book a school tour.  We love having families visit during the day to see what our school is all about!

Kindergarten registration begins online January 12 for all CBE schools.  You can learn more about the registration process here and set up your online registration account here

Grade 6 Farewell Committee

Thank you to Fouzia N. for leading the Grade 6 farewell committee this year.  Fouzia is looking for other Grade 6 parents to help with the planning and organizing.  If you are interested in helping, please email Fouzia at grade6ceremonycommittee@gmail.com

We would also love to have at least one Grade 5 parent join the committee, become familiar with the process, and lead the committee the following year; this succession plan is important and saves everyone a lot of time and energy!

Our farewell this year will look a bit different, as it will be during the day and will be scaled back compared to previous years.  The intent of the farewell is to celebrate our sixes, and we will be sure to do that.  We do need to differentiate between a Grade 6 farewell, a Grade 9 celebration, and a Grade 12 graduation.  This year, we will make it special for the students (and their families!), while keeping in mind that this is Grade 6.

Reminder: Winter Concerts

We invite all families to come to our winter concerts on Thursday, December 11.  Like in previous years, we ask that extended family members attend the daytime performance (10:15 AM) and that immediate family attend the evening performance (6:30 PM) to ensure we have enough space for everyone. Doors will open at 10:00 and 6:00 that day.

This year, we will be collecting donations for our Parent Fundraising Society through Ed Matters at the concerts.  There will be cash donations accepted, or a QR code to donate online. We recommend $5 per family; 100% of the funds go directly back to the school, to help with enrichment activities like field trips, and to support initiatives like the Belfast shirts.  Thank you!

Reminder: This Year’s Fees are Posted

We would like to remind parents that fees are now posted for lunchroom and some trips.  You can pay your fees at MyCBE.

Reminder: Outstanding Fees from Last Year

Did you know that last year Belfast School had to pay over $4000 out of our own small school budget for field trips that were not paid for by parents?  Our tiny school simply cannot afford to have that kind of deficit, so we encourage families to pay outstanding fees from last year as well.  Thank you for ensuring we can continue to offer trips in the future!

Reminder: Friends Pizza Night – December 10

Our generous neighbors at Friends Pizza are hosting another evening where they donate sales of pizza back to Belfast.  When you order your pizza, just tell them you want the proceeds to go to Belfast School.  We raise about $400 each pizza night and that helps our Fundraising Society support our school.  We will have more reminders on Instagram.  Thank you!

Reminder: Annual Giving Tree – Gift Card Donations Accepted!

It’s that time of year again when we begin to collect donations of gift cards to give to fellow Belfast families in need.  Starting Monday, you can bring any gift card, in any denomination, to the office.  Before winter break, we will distribute the cards to Belfast families in need.  If you are purchasing a card, we strongly recommend purchasing cards for places that sell both groceries and other goods, like Superstore or Walmart, so parents can buy what they need and maybe some presents for their children at the holidays.  Please drop off donations to Shelley in the main office.  Thank you for helping out your fellow Belfast parents!

As always, please do not hesitate to reach out if you have anything you would like to share.

Have a wonderful weekend,
Meagan Lundgren
