Dear Belfast Families,  

The Update is coming out a few days early today, just so families have an opportunity to reach out if they have any questions. 

This is my last Weekly Update as the principal of Belfast School and to be perfectly honest, it's a bit emotional to write!  Belfast really is a gem of a school, and I have felt so welcomed, so appreciated, and so loved during the last 3.5 years I've had the privilege to work with all of you.  THANK YOU for always showing up for events, for embracing all the community-building ideas we had and trusting us to teach and help raise your children.  Students learn best when they have the support of home and school, and Belfast students are fortunate to have that support. It has been a special honor to work with all of you.  I will miss Belfast tremendously and can't wait to hear updates about how the school is doing!  

To those of you just beginning your Belfast experience in the fall, rest assured you've picked a great school!  The Welcome Back BBQ is the perfect time to make new friends and connect with the school community.  I encourage all new families to attend – you will see in just one evening how special this school really is!  

I wish you all a happy, healthy, safe, and fun summer filled with love, laughter, outdoor activities, family, and friends.  I also wish you the best in the fall - and I know your 2026-2027 school year will be fantastic!

Our classroom teachers for next year are:

Our Fine Arts teacher position will be filled in August.  

If your child is in Grades 2-5, you will receive an email on August 27 with teacher and classroom assignment information. 

First Day of School:  Monday, August 31 

On the first day of school, staff will be outside with signs starting at 8:15 AM.  Students can find their teacher and stay with them until the doors open at 8:25 AM. 

School Council is providing coffee on the playground for parents at 8:30 – this is a great way to meet some new people! 

Kindergarten Staggered Entry – First Day Only 

On the first day of school only, kindergarten students come for a modified day.  

The kindergarten teacher will reach out in August to let you know when your child will be attending, but the time slots are: 

  • AM Class: Either 8:30-9:45 OR 10:15-11:30 
  • PM Class:  Either 12:15-1:30 OR 2:00-3:15 

School Hours 

  • Grades 1-6 
  • 8:30 AM – 3:15 PM Monday – Thursday (Doors open at 8:25 AM) 
  • 8:30 AM – 12:15 PM Fridays (Doors open at 8:25 AM) 
  • Kindergarten 
  • 8:30 AM – 11:30 AM – AM Kindergarten (Doors open at 8:25 AM) 
  • 12:15 PM – 3:15 PM – PM Kindergarten (Doors open at 12:10 PM) 
  • Alternating Fridays, October – May  

Entry/Exit Doors Changes 

  • Next year, all kindergarten and LEAD student will enter through the front doors of the school  
  • All other students (Grades 1-6) will enter through the playground doors 

School Supplies 

Your child needs a water bottle, lunch/snack, backpack, and clean indoor running shoes (to be left at school) each day.  All items should be labelled with your child’s name.  Your child also needs to wear proper clothing to be outside each day.  You do NOT need to buy school supplies – all supplies are provided by the school through the Student Supply Fee each parent pays.   

Staff Accessibility Over the Summer 

Summer is a time for staff to connect with their own family and friends; therefore, staff will not be available through email from June 30 at 12:00 PM to August 26 at 8:30 AM.  If there is an urgent matter, please contact the new principal, Shafina Dharamsi, at shdharamsi@cbe.ab.ca and she will contact you when she is able to. All non-urgent matters will be addressed at the end of August. 

Communication in the Fall 

The school will not send communication out over the summer.  The next communication you have from the school will be sent out the week of August 24.

Save the Date:  Welcome Back BBQ 

Our annual Welcome Back BBQ will be on Thursday, September 3 from 5:00-7:00 PM.  Everyone is encouraged to attend. Staff will be serving hot dogs (veggie, all-beef, Halal), drinks, chips, and fruit.  Families are welcome to bring their own food or extra snacks if they wish.  This is a relaxed evening where kids run around and play, families visit, and staff get to know all of you!
