Dear Belfast Families,
We had such a wonderful time with our Mission Impossible this week, and look forward to a few more days of it next week; please have a look at our Instagram to see pictures of the students working their way through the course. Our Grades 2-4 students got to experience live, competitive curling at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts this week; thank you to Ms. Devos for being the teacher in charge of that trip. Thank you also to our other staff members and volunteers who made the trip happen!
We encourage all our families to follow our school’s Instagram account (@BelfastSchoolcbe) and visit our school website to see pictures from the week.
Pink Shirt Day & Community Day: February 28
We will be sharing the teachings behind Pink Shirt Day and focusing on kindness prior to Wednesday so that all students understand the significance of wearing pink that day. On Wednesday morning, we will also be having a Community Day. Students will be in their mixed-grade cohorts reflecting on why we acknowledge Pink Shirt Day and why kindness matters. Later that morning, Belfast students will be going throughout the neighborhood (weather permitting) to share some kindness with our neighbors. Check out our Instagram next week to see what we did!
You’re Invited: School Council & Parent Fundraising Society – Tuesday at 6:30 in the Library
Our next School Council meeting will include an update from the Grade 2/3 teachers, Ms. Devos and Ms. Holmes, and then we will share our School Planning 2024 presentations. You can come and learn more about our School Development Plan, school budget, and fees. We will be asking for input and value our families’ voices! We hope to see you there!
Mr. V’s Last Week: Impromptu Sharing Day
Mr. V’s last day will be Friday, March 1 and we are having a small, casual sharing performance in the gym that morning at 8:45. Each class will perform a song for the school, and families are welcome to attend. Please note that this is NOT a formal performance, but families can stand at the back of the gym and watch if they would like. We expect the sharing experience to take about fifteen minutes or so. We would like to thank Mr. V for all of his hard work while he has been at Belfast and wish him the best of luck at his new gig!
Reminder: From the Belfast School Parent Fundraising Society – 60% of Goal Raised!
We're simplifying our fundraising efforts! Instead of multiple smaller events, we're hosting one major fundraiser on the Education Matters platform. 100% of your donation goes directly to the school (3.5% for administration). Tax receipts for donations over $20.00. Donate any amount, big or small, by clicking HERE or scanning the QR code in the attached poster. Please share with anyone who would like to support Belfast students. We hope to reach our goal by March 31!
Reminder: Fair Entry: Subsidized City of Calgary Programs and Services
Depending on your income level, you may qualify for the Fair Entry program through the City of Calgary. This subsidized program for low income households connects families to subsidized rates on transit, recreation, property tax, spay/neutering, home maintenance, parking, internet and television. Visit https://fairentry.calgary.ca/Public/Login.aspx?ReturnUrl=/ to apply.
If you qualify for the fair entry program, you can upload the approval in School Engage to have school fees waived.
This is a VERY beneficial program for many families – please check it out!
Reminder: Kindergarten Registration is Ongoing
Kindergarten registration opened January 15 online through MyCBE/School Engage.. Registration is ongoing, but from a school perspective, the sooner, the better. The earlier we know our projected numbers for next year, the better we can plan. If you have questions about the registration process, please call Kari in the office!
As always, please do not hesitate to reach out if you have anything you would like to share.
Have a great weekend,
Meagan Lundgren
