Dear Belfast Families,

This week, we received our budget for next year. This is a very busy time of year at school as we wrap up one year while preparing for the next. We will be sharing our plans for next year over the next few weeks.

With the nice weather coming, we will be eating outside at lunchtime on warm, dry days. Please ensure your child comes dressed for the weather as the days get warmer.

We encourage all our families to follow our school’s Instagram account (@BelfastSchoolcbe) and visit our school website to see pictures from the week.

PD Day Next Friday

Just a reminder that there is no school for students next Friday, as we have a PD day. Our staff will be at various sites around the city as they engage in professional learning.

Reminder:  Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF) Fundraiser

ARF supports homeless dogs and cats in rural areas around Calgary by finding them forever homes.  ARF ensures all of their pets are spayed/neutered to help control the pet population. ARF is a non-profit charity that has a facility for holding pets waiting for their new homes and also uses foster homes.  Our Leadership Club is fundraising for ARF from April 8-18.  During this time, we will be collecting cash donations, and a variety of other items for dogs and cats:

  • Dog and cat food and treats (can be opened)
  • Leashes and collars
  • Poop bags
  • Brushes, nail clippers
  • Toys
  • Litterboxes and scoops
  • Cleaning products (Dawn dish soap, hand soap, hand sanitizer, bleach, Lysol wipes)
  • Stainless steel dishes
  • New or used towels, blankets (nothing knitted)

Your child can bring these items with them to class and Leadership Club students will collect them.  For more information about ARF, and to see their complete wish list (and adorable adoptable pets!), please visit their website here

Reminder:  School Council, Snacks, and Free Babysitting?  Yes, please!

Belfast School Council is excited to invite you to the April 30 meeting.  We hope to give all parents the opportunity to come and see what a council meeting is like!  We know it can be hard to attend these meetings, so to help, we will be providing a MOVIE in the gym with FREE BABYSITTING for children over the age of two.  Babies are welcome to join their parents in the meeting.  Doors will open at 6:15 PM with the meeting starting promptly at 6:30. There will be light refreshments for the adults during the meeting.  More details to follow next week, but there is limited capacity, so please RSVP by April 22 to belfastparentcouncil@gmail.com with the number and ages of the children who will attend.  Please remember the expectation is that parents attend the meeting while their children watch the movie.

School Engagement Results are In!  School Development Plan, School Budget & School Fees

Thank you so much to our 24 families who completed our survey about our School Development Plan (SDP), school budget, and school fees.  We have posted the results here.  You can also read highlights from the comments on our school website here

Reminder:  Volunteers Needed for Blue Jays Baseball Program

Do you love baseball?  Do you have a good(ish) arm and can throw to kids?  As we shared back in the fall, Belfast is so fortunate to be a Blue Jays Care school.  We will be starting this baseball club at the end of April and need some parent volunteers to help out.  It will be one afternoon each week, for about 30-45 after school.  If you are interested in helping out, please message Ms. Tuck at emtuck@cbe.ab.ca.  Thank you!

Reminder:  Kindergarten Registration is Ongoing

Kindergarten registration opened January 15 online through MyCBE/School Engage..  Registration is ongoing, but from a school perspective, the sooner, the better.  The earlier we know our projected numbers for next year, the better we can plan.  If you have questions about the registration process, please call Kari in the office!

As always, please do not hesitate to reach out if you have anything you would like to share.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Meagan Lundgren

Principal
